Dev Log 2023/04: Life Support Systems 1/2

The work is still ongoing on the ship’s front section but the atmosphere model is now up and running (presentation video below).

The front section’s systems are proving much more complex than I had anticipated. Keeping humans alive in space dealing with the actual IRL physics must be quite a challenge πŸ‘©β€πŸš€πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€. But back to the project there is now a whole ship to interface with for any new added part, which clearly does not help (controllers, monitors, diagnostic, maintenance…)
However the service layer is now operational (electrical and thermal devices, gas supplies). Also the model for the habitat’s atmosphere can now simulate the chemical reactions of interest. That is human(-like) occupants breathing, sweating and producing various contaminants (will not detail that too much! πŸ™‚), together with the revitalization systems cleaning after them.

Beyond adding another set of devices for the player to manage and maintain, the next update will give a better view of the intended gameplay for the feature. The other goal here is to connect the crew management to the game layer, so as to provide career rewards and means to unlock new options such as missions and equipment. But that means implementing all this first! πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§

Thanks for reading!
