The work on the game layer is going on with the missions’ system.
As mentioned in the video the missions are implemented as programmable state machines using instructions from a dedicated API. The next step is now to define a simple description language and build an associated parser to be able to import externally designed operations.
This comes before the internal generator as it should help design mission templates and test the system in more depth.
Hi, David! Looking really good!
Hello Vincent, thanks for watching!
o7 David!
Your devlogs are just as holidays for me.
It is great that “game” elements are taking its place.
If you’ll start looking into people to test when there is enough gameplay you know that we’re here for your service.
Thank you for all your hard work
Looking forward for future dev updates.
Hello Elijah,
Thank you for your interest in the game! About testing the best is to subscribe to the newsletter. I’m afraid it’s been quite some time since I sent the last one but I’ll use that channel to call for more testers. It’s still some time away though π¨βπ§
Hi, David,
Great work. I Have been following the development for years now, thanks for sharing it!
Do you plan to add weapons / combat to the game (befor public release)?
It would be a big working package probbably…
regards,
Stefan
Hello Stefan,
Weapons and combat are planned but as you mention that will require a lot of work. So right now I think that a public release should come as soon as enough “orbital police” content is available, and I’ll continue working on the game to add the more advanced functions on the run.
Hi David,
It’s great to see that the development is coming along this well and that you’ve put some thought into letting players create their own missions with what seems will be a fairly extensive mission system.
Looking forward to what comes next
Hello Alfred,
The first iteration of the import system should be ready soon and I’ll give more details about the missions in the coming related devlog.
As you mentioned it’s primarily meant for external contributors but I plan to use scripted missions too, typically to prepare in-game tutorials and to develop templates for the dynamic generator that will be coming next! π¨βπ§π
