Ship Maintenance

The ship’s components can now be serviced and replaced at space stations.

An overview of the related operations is presented in the following video:

Keeping the ship in good operational shape will constitute a persistent gameplay element, and which will have to be factored in for shorter term objectives. Typically that might involve making detours to stop at high tech shipyards, or be ready to deal with possible in-flight failures if a time critical situation requires to delay a maintenance event for instance.

In relation with the career progression the current plan is to compare the effective operating costs with a reference budget. And so in the long run a careful usage of the ship (wear limitation) and balanced maintenance strategies (optimum use of the parts’ endurance and preventive servicing) should provide significant bonuses.

The current general development objective is to complete the ship’s civilian features, and so the next devlog should present the ship’s front section and its life support systems.

That’s a 128.6 nHz “still working! πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§” transponder ping from deep space actually! πŸ˜‰

This looks so great… thank you for filling the space sim gap by providing this awesome simulator! I’d love to play it, but will you do a linux version?

Thank you for your interest in the project πŸ™‚
The sim is currently running on a custom framework (rendering + audio) and that uses SharpDX as a .NET Framework wrapper to DirectX, and so on Windows. There have been some attempts to run it on linux but so far they have not succeeded. I’ll probably look into a more portable solution someday but I’m afraid that won’t happen before the release.

No problem! Just ensuring early that the modules used to build the game are easily translated to linux would spare you difficulties later on, when you’ll want to look more deeply on that subject.
Anyway thanks a lot for at least considering it! This looks exactly the type of game that i love and you can definitely count me in if you manage a linux version! I’ll keep following the progress, and good luck!
